- Bezeichnung: Unterhalb in der Druckplatte mit einer Initiale des Dargestellten bezeichnet: „H.“. Auf dem Blattrand von fremder Hand in Bleistift bezeichnet.
Das Blatt stammt aus Johann Caspar Lavaters Physiognomische Fragmente, zur Beförderung der Menschenkenntniß und Menschenliebe. Zwischen 1775 und 1778 gab er das mehrbändige Werk heraus, in dem menschliche Charaktere anhand ihrer Physiognomie erklärt werden. Bekannte Künstler wie Daniel Chodowiecki, Johann Rudolph Schellenberg oder Johann Heinrich Lips lieferten Vorlagen für seine Sammlung der Physiognomik, die zahlreiche Porträts bekannter und anonymer Personen enthält.

- Zustand: Sehr guter Zustand. Insbesondere auf dem Blattrand schwach verbräunt und vereinzelt fleckig. Unten links befindet sich eine druckbedingte Quetschfalte. Entlang der Kanten stellenweise bestoßen. Die linke Blattkante ist geringfügig durch die Herauslösung aus einer Buchbindung beschädigt. Rechts unten befindet sich ein kurzer Randeinriss.

The sheet is from Johann Caspar Lavater’s Physiognomische Fragmente, zur Beförderung der Menschenkenntniß und Menschenliebe. Between 1775 and 1778, he published the multi-volume work, in which human characters are explained on the basis of their physiognomy. Well-known artists such as Daniel Chodowiecki, Johann Rudolph Schellenberg or Johann Heinrich Lips provided models for his collection of physiognomics, which contains numerous portraits of well-known and anonymous people.

The left edge of the sheet is slightly damaged by detachment from a book binding. There is a short marginal tear at lower right.
