Die Gebrüder Alinari aus Florenz waren Romualdo (1830-1891), Leopoldo (1832-1865) und Guiseppe (1836-1892). Leopoldo begann bereits in der Daguerreotypiezeit zu fotografieren und arbeitete für den Lithographen Guiseppe Bardi, mit dem zusammen er 1850 ein Fotoatelier gründete. 1854 kaufte Leopoldo die Anteile Bardis und mit seinen Brüdern zusammen entstand daraus das Atelier Fratelli Alinari. Es wurde eines der bedeutendsten italienischen Ateliers des 19. Jahrhunderts und später eines der größten Fotoarchive der Welt, das heute noch besteht.

The Alinari brothers from Florence were Romualdo (1830-1891), Leopoldo (1832-1865) and Guiseppe (1836-1892). Leopoldo began taking photographs in the daguerreotype era and worked for the lithographer Guiseppe Bardi, with whom he founded a photographic studio in 1850. In 1854, Leopoldo bought Bardi’s shares and, together with his brothers, founded the Fratelli Alinari studio. It became one of the most important Italian studios of the 19th century and later one of the largest photographic archives in the world, which still exists today.
