Wunderschöne Außenansicht der Basilika Santi Giovanni e Paolo in Rom, die auf eine der ältesten christlichen Kultstätten der Stadt zurückgeht. Auf unserem Blatt liegt der Schwerpunkt auf der Darstellung der Apsis und Strebebögen. Eine Besonderheit für die Kirchenarchitektur Roms stellt die als Bekrönung der gewaltigen Apsis errichtete Zwerggalerie dar, darüber schönes Abschlussgesims mit Würfelfries. Die Strebebögen überspannen die sommerlich helle, antike Straße “Clivus Scauri” zur Rechten. Besondere Bedeutung kommt der Basilika aufgrund der darunter ausgegrabenen Reste antiker Häuser mit vorchristlichen und christlichen Wandbildern zu. - Datierung: um 1915

Beautiful exterior view of the Basilica of Santi Giovanni e Paolo in Rome, which dates back to one of the oldest Christian places of worship in the city. Our print focuses on the depiction of the apse and flying buttresses. A special feature for the church architecture of Rome is the dwarf gallery built as the crowning of the enormous apse, above which is a beautiful final cornice with a cube frieze. The buttressed arches span the ancient street “Clivus Scauri” on the right, which is bright in summer. The basilica is of particular importance because of the remains of ancient houses with pre-Christian and Christian murals excavated underneath. - Date: c. 1915
