- Bezeichnung: Rechts unten am Blattrand signiert. Mit Wasserzeichen im Papier. Rückseitig links mit Sammlerstempel “EK” im Kreis (Sammlung Erhard Oskar Kaps, Leipzig, L.3549). Und rechts mit rundem Stempel: “Sammlung Scharfen” (L. 3549).
- Datierung: 19. Jahrhundert
- Beschreibung: Das Kind hält mit der linken ein Buch an die Brust. Die rechte Hand stützt es auf seine Hüfte. Die ganzfigurige Portrait-Zeichnung ist unfertig. Es fehlen Teile der linken Körperhälfte. Brandt studierte an der Königlich Preußischen Akademie der Künste in Berlin. Von 1850 bis 1852 war er als Illustrator in Berlin tätig. Von 1850 bis 1856 nahm er an den Berliner Akademie-Ausstellungen teil, um 1853 war er in Paris, wo er im Atelier von Léon Cogniet lernte. Ab 1854 in Rom ansässig, war Brandt vor allem als Genre- und Landschaftsmaler tätig.

- Description: The child holds a book to his chest with his left hand. The right hand rests on his hip. The full-length portrait drawing is unfinished. Parts of the left half of the body are missing. Brandt studied at the Royal Prussian Academy of Arts in Berlin. From 1850 to 1852 he worked as an illustrator in Berlin. From 1850 to 1856 he took part in the Berlin academy exhibitions, around 1853 he was in Paris, where he studied in the studio of Lon Cogniet. Residing in Rome from 1854, Brandt was mainly active as a genre and landscape painter.
