- Beschreibung: Johann Gottlob Immanuel Breitkopf (1719 Leipzig 1794) war Musikverleger und Lythograf. Er entwarf Schriften, darunter die ‘Brietkopf-Fraktur’ und revolutionierte den Notendruck durch die Erfindung eines Notensatzes, mit welchem Partituren aus kleineren Segmenten zusammengesetzt werden konnten. Ebenso entwickelte er ein System, wie Landkarten typographisch abgebildet werden könnten. Breitkopf ermöglichte durch seine Inventionen eine Etablierung des Druckes nicht nur als Medium der Literatur und bildenden Künste, sondern auch als verbessertes Instrument der Musik und als Grundlage der modernen Kartographie. Goethe war in seiner Leipziger Zeit ein häufiger Gast der Familie Breitkopf.

- Description: Johann Gottlob Immanuel Breitkopf (1719 Leipzig 1794) was a music publisher and lythographer. He designed typefaces, including the ‘Brietkopf-Fraktur’, and revolutionised music printing by inventing a notation system with which scores could be composed of smaller segments. He also developed a system for the typographic representation of maps. Through his inventions, Breitkopf made it possible to establish printing not only as a medium for literature and the fine arts, but also as an improved instrument for music and as the basis for modern cartography. Goethe was a frequent guest of the Breitkopf family during his time in Leipzig.
