Als Illustrator von Goethes Faust erlangte der deutsche Maler, Illustrator und Grafiker Felix Meseck (*1883 Danzig-1955 Höxter) großes Ansehen. Er war Schüler von Dettermann und Heinrich Wolff in Königsberg; Nach dem Studium bekam der Künstler durch seinen Lehrer Dettmann Kontakte zur Künstlergruppe der Berliner Secession, in der Max Liebermann, Lovis Corinth und Max Slevogt tonangebend waren. Er erzielte schon in jungen Jahren große Erfolge als Graphiker, Federzeichnungen und Kaltnadelradierungen waren seine Techniken; Professor an der Kunstakademie in Weimar von 1924-1930, dann in Berlin, ab 1940 in Danzig und seit 1946 in Holzminden tätig. - Datierung: um 1920

The German painter, illustrator and graphic artist Felix Meseck (*1883 Danzig-1955 Höxter) achieved great renown as the illustrator of Goethe’s Faust. He was a pupil of Dettermann and Heinrich Wolff in Königsberg. After his studies, the artist came into contact with the Berlin Secession group of artists, in which Max Liebermann, Lovis Corinth and Max Slevogt set the tone, through his teacher Dettmann. He achieved great success as a graphic artist at a young age; pen and ink drawings and drypoint etchings were his techniques; professor at the art academy in Weimar from 1924-1930, then active in Berlin, from 1940 in Danzig and since 1946 in Holzminden. - Date: c. 1920
