John Boydell excudt. 1766”. Earlom zählt zu einem der Hauptmeister des englischen Mezzotinto-Stiches, dessen Werk bereits von seinen Zeitgenossen hoch geschätzt wurde. Bekannt sind 541 von ihm bearbeitete Platten (Rubinstein, Anm. 56), die meisten verlegt bei John und Josiah Boydell.

- Beschreibung: Vorzugsdruck neben der sonst bekannten Radierung, auf Büttenpapier. Besonders schöner Druck mit Betonung der dreidimensionalen Effekte und Schattenflächen durch die geschabten Partien und fein gestuften Valeurs.

- Zustand: Sehr guter Zustand. Das Papier ist altersbedingt verfärbt. Das Blatt ist blass stockfleckig. Die Darstellung ist frisch erhalten und macht einen tadellosen Eindruck. Stellenweise leichte Kratzer, Abdruck eines kleinen Haares im Bereich der Darstellung aus der Entstehungsphase des Blattes.

Earlom is one of the main masters of English mezzotint engraving, whose work was already highly appreciated by his contemporaries. There are 541 plates known to have been worked by him (Rubinstein, note 56), most of them published by John and Josiah Boydell.

- Description: Preferential print beside the otherwise well-known etching, on handmade paper. Particularly beautiful print with emphasis of the three-dimensional effects and shadow areas by the scraped parts and finely stepped valeurs.

- Condition: Very good condition. The paper is discoloured due to its age. The sheet is pale foxed. The image is freshly preserved and makes a perfect impression. Light scratches in places, imprint of a small hair in the area of the image from the period of origin of the print.
