Das Blatt ist im Rand altersbedingt verfärbt, im unteren Bereich der Darstellung sind leichte Verschmutzungen feststellbar; die beiden linken Blattecken sind infolge der Montage auf eine Unterlage leicht beschädigt; entlang des Bildrandes knapp beschnitten.

The German painter and director Johann Eleazar Schenau, actually Johann Eleazar Zeissig, was director and professor of genre and portrait painting at the Dresden Art Academy and already attended the Dresden Drawing School at the age of 12, where a pupil of Anton Raphael Meng had placed him and where he was trained by Charles-Francois de Silvestre – the son of the director of the Dresden Drawing School. He studied at the Acadmie royale de peinture et de sculpture and was one of the most respected genre painters in Paris.

- Condition: Rather good condition. The image makes a very good impression. The sheet is discoloured in the margin due to its age, in the lower part of the image light soiling can be noticed; the two left corners of the sheet are slightly damaged as a result of mounting on a backing; along the edge of the image just trimmed.
