Spanischer Stierkämpfer, der als Vater des modernen Stierkampfs für Zuschauer gilt. Costillares wurde in Sevilla als Sohn des Matadors Luis Rodríguez geboren, der ebenfalls in einem Schlachthaus arbeitete und seinem Vater in beiden Berufen folgte.ImSchlachthauslernte er die Anatomie des Stiers kennen, was ihm als Stierkämpfer helfen würde.Er begann seine Karriere bei Pedro Palomo und erlangte Anerkennung in Sevilla, wo er als einer der ersten an der kürzlich errichteten Real Maestranza- Stierkampfarena auftrat. Costillares debütierte 1767 in Madrid und begann eine Rivalität mit dem beliebten Favoriten Pedro Romero. Er trat zwischen 1780 und 1790 regelmäßig in Madrid auf und überlebte 1782 bei einem Kampf schwere Verletzungen.Er starb im Alter von 56 Jahren in Madrid.

Spanish bullfighter who is considered the father of modern spectator bullfighting. Costillares was born in Seville, the son of Luis Rodríguez, a matador who also worked in a slaughterhouse and followed his father in both professions.At the slaughterhouse he learned about the anatomy of the bull, which would help him as a bullfighter.He began his career with Pedro Palomo and gained recognition in Seville, where he was one of the first to perform at the recently built Real Maestranza bullring. Costillares made his debut in Madrid in 1767 and began a rivalry with the popular favourite Pedro Romero. He performed regularly in Madrid between 1780 and 1790 and survived serious injuries in a fight in 1782.He died in Madrid at the age of 56.
