Das vom Schmerz verzerrte Gesicht Mariens blickt auf ihren Sohn, dessen lebloser Körper in ihrem Schoß ruht. Für den Kirchhof der Misericordia in Siena vollendet, zählt sie zu den edelsten und empfindungsreichsten Werken DUPRÈS, in der seine Kunst feiner naturalistischer Durchbildung ihren Höhepunkt erreicht.

- Description: The Pietà, created by the Italian sculptor Giovanni DUPRÈ in the years 1860-1865, extends horizontally in the picture space. Mary’s face, distorted by pain, looks at her son, whose lifeless body rests in her lap. Completed for the churchyard of the Misericordia in Siena, it is one of DUPRÈ’s noblest and most emotional works, in which his art of fine naturalistic interpretation reaches its peak.
