Ab 1834 an der Münchner Akademie. Seiner Zeit der bedeutendste deutsche Tiermaler. Seine Werke befinden sich u.a. in der Neuen Pinakothek zu München, im Museum zu Köln und in der Berliner Nationalgalerie.
