The decorative image shows the English jurist and politician Earl of Hardwicke (1690 – 1764), published in “Portraits of Illustrious Personages of Great Britain”. The engraver William Thomas Fry was one of the first to experiment with steel plates. He engraved eight portraits for the second edition of Edmund Lodge’s “Portraits of Illustrious Personages of Great Britain”; he also contributed four works to Fisher’s “National Portrait Gallery” (1830-34) and eleven to Jones’ “National Gallery” (1836). - Date: 1832
